Krug Rosé
Absolute elegance

Krug Rosé is everywhere we don’t expect it to be, in terms of texture, colour and taste. It is a remarkable Champagne which encapsulates the same creative spirit of Krug Grande Cuvée, again surpassing the very notion of vintage.

Serious Portrait of Eric Lebel
This magnum spent at least 8 years in Krug's cellars developing its particular expression and elegance, receiving its cork in winter 2012 - 2013.

As it is a magnum, we let it rest for even longer, waiting until the Champagne is ready to be enjoyed.

Inspired by the dream of the fifth generation of the House of Krug to conceive a rosé Champagne that did not yet exist, every year a new Édition of Krug Rosé is created.

The broad palette of elegant notes in Krug Rosé 17ème Édition, is born from a selection of 23 wines, the youngest of which dates back to 2004 and the oldest to 1998. The blend was completed with 10% traditionally macerated Pinot Noir red wine from the year.

Krug Rosé 17ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2004. With beautiful weather in harvest time from mid-September to early October, 2004 was a generous year after the challenging extremes of 2003. Nature's elation afforded a breadth of choice and when harvest time arrived the grapes were in very good condition.

When the time came to taste the wines of the year, the Meuniers revealed vivacity, tension and citrus notes, while the Pinot Noirs showed a beautiful structure. But it was the Chardonnays, especially those from plots in Trépail, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize and Oger, that particularly stood out for their remarkable freshness.

To balance and complement the fresh notes of fruit in the chosen wines of the year, a careful selection of reserve wines from the House's extensive library make up 47% of the blend. Preeminent among them are wines of 2003, particularly those from Pinot Noir plots in Ay and Verzenay, which brought their radiance, generosity and more mature expression of fruit. Chardonnays from the late 1990s from plots in Avize, Oger and Villers-Marmery lent their distinctive grace. Finally, a red wine from the House's plot in Ay imparted an enchanting colour, length and spiciness. This fusion promised to reveal the elegance and verve so characteristic of every Édition of Krug Rosé.

The final composition of this bottle of Krug Rosé is 27% Pinot Noir, 43% Chardonnay and 30% Meunier.

Krug Rosé is the most non-conformist of Krug Champagnes, for bold gastronomic adventures. Combining breadth, depth and grace, it dances a perfect tango with savoury dishes of all kinds, replacing a great red wine at the table with brio.
Eric Lebel

Tasting notes

Krug Rosé is both unexpected and daring. It shows a broad and extensive aromatic palette, unusual for a Rosé Champagne.
As you taste Krug Rosé, you will discover harmonies of puff pastry and red-berry tart, which develop towards honey and citrus fruits.
Its floral accents and notes of dried or stewed fruit will enthral your palate. Its extreme delicacy is enhanced by the subtlety of its fine and elegant bubbles.

Storing & serving

  • Krug Grande Cuvée | 1
The richness of your Krug Champagne is fully revealed between 9°C and 12°C (49°F - 54°F). Serving your bottle too cold would refrain the aromas’expression.
  • Krug Grande Cuvée | 2
Krug has created The Joseph, a unique crystal glass whose shape enables the bubbles to reach their optimal expression and allows the discovery of the incredible bouquet of aromas.
  • Krug Grande Cuvée | 3
If you do not have The Joseph glass, we recommend using a white Burgundy glass instead of a flute, to enable the expression of Krug Champagne’s flavors and aromas.
  • Krug Grande Cuvée | 4
As a Prestige Cuvée, Krug Champagnes age beautifully, the time revealing their richness and elegance.
  • Krug Grande Cuvée | 5
Your Champagne should be stored in a wine cellar, or in a cool (between 10 to 15 °C - 50 to 59 °F) dry and away from light place, the exact conditions of Krug cellars.
  • Krug Grande Cuvée | 6
The House of Krug’s unique craftsmanship is based on our understanding every plot through its individual wine. After several tastings by the tasting committee, a thorough assessment of each plot’s wine is achieved. In order to reveal the individual essence of every Krug Champagne, the most expressive wines are selected to play in each composition accordingly.
No strong filtering or cold treatment is applied to any of our wines before bottling, thereby keeping a non-interventionist approach to the creation of every Krug Champagne, from vineyards to glass. As a result of this choice, while enjoying Krug, you may occasionally notice at the bottom of the last glass a few wine diamonds – harmless tartrate crystals which can form naturally while bottles are resting or being chilled. These are also known as quality crystals and we at the House of Krug felt it was important to share with you this further evidence of our commitment to preserving the most natural approach to the creation of all Krug Champagnes.

Food pairing

"The silky texture of this vivid rosé Champagne draped the palate, offering an aromatic panoply of flavors, from pure raspberry and white peach fruit to ground cumin and anise, violet, graphite, spun honey and toasted almond. Delivers a long, mouthwatering finish." – AN

Note: 95/100

A rosé which never plays with a flattering and primary character but enhances the depth and the finesse of a Grand Cru, with an infinite persistence.

To get closer to the surprising and festive effect of the Krug Rosé, we wanted to travel in South America with a bossa nova rhythm - and bring a little surprise effect! This music evokes a surprising rhythmic instability, which reflects Krug Rosé's blend of distinction and audacity.
