In the cellar
Krug Collection
Time’s second revelation of Krug Vintage.
To the delight of Krug Lovers around the world, a very limited number of bottles of Krug Vintage are kept in ideal conditions in the House’s cellars. Over time, they continue to develop in maturity, revealing flavours and aromas of astonishing freshness, elegance and finesse.
The Cellar Master and the Tasting Committee take note of these additional facets and depth that have emerged. New flavours surprise whilst old ones have evolved in structure. At that moment, they decide these bottles are ready to receive their cork, to be presented to the world as Krug Collection: the deeper story of a Krug Vintage.

Krug Collection 1988 is the second life of Krug 1988, a beautiful Champagne of extreme elegance and refinement with perfect roundness and length.
To express the character of 1988, this Champagne is a blend of intense Pinot Noir (50%), elegant and round Chardonnay (32%) and very fresh Meunier (18%).

A word from
The cellar master

There are no rules governing when a bottle becomes Krug Collection. The year 1989 revealed its second life sooner than 1988, so Krug Collection 1989 left the cellars first, after Krug Collection 1990 has already been presented.

FOOD PAIRINGS
The delicacy and elegance of Krug Collection 1988 contrast deliciously with rich, unctuous dishes such as turbot in hollandaise sauce, sea bass in butter, chicken with cream sauce and desserts with a base of dried fruits and almonds.
Dishes bearing hints of vanilla would also be wonderful companions, enlivening the most daring of palates.

TASTING NOTES
At first sight, a deep, intense golden colour announces maturity, opulence, harmony and elegance.
On the nose, exotic and complex with notes of white fruits, truffle, spices, honey, slightly browned apples and a hint of high-toned flowers, with a gentle nuttiness in the background.
On the palate, long, fresh and elegant. It is full of sensations: orange blossom, dried figs, ripe quince, mild spices such as cinnamon and ginger combined with maple syrup, dark chocolate, coffee, honey, as well as roasted notes. It has a crystal and long finish with undertones of mineral and spices.
Note:
Serving Temperature
The House of Krug recommends that its Champagnes be served between 9°C and 12°C, as colder temperatures limit the expression of their flavours and aromas.
Note:
The Joseph Glass
In 2011, we partnered with renowned crystalware maker, Riedel, to design a glass that would reveal the fullness of flavours and aromas of Krug champagnes.
Note:
The Influence of Time
All Krug champagnes gain in complexity and patina with the passage of time. We recommend storing them at the same temperature as you intend to serve them, between 9°C and 12°C.

RATINGS
"When Krug 1988 was first released, a few bottles remained stored in the Krug cellars to see how they aged. The result today is a bouquet of incredible complexity, a veritable spice box full of seductive scents including sandalwood, mocha, and leather as well as a waxy note. Such a beguiling mix of youthful energy with eminent ageworthiness. Readers who can find the 1988 should not hesitate, as it is stellar."

RATINGS
"The Krug Collection 1988 makes for a fabulous start. Tasted from a perfect bottle, the 1988 remains bright and focused, with all of the energy of this great vintage very much on display. Time has naturally softened some of the contours and added a good bit of nuance, but the 1988 Krug remains a Champagne of crystalline precision. I loved it!"
