Krug Grande Cuvée

The most generous expression of Champagne.

Krug Grande Cuvée is born from the dream Joseph Krug to craft the very best champagne he could offer, every year, regardless of annual variations in climate.

Each year, Maison Krug honours his vision with a new Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée: the most generous expression of Champagne.

Beyond the notion of vintage, Krug Grande Cuvée is always a blend of over 120 individual wines from more than 10 different years, expressing a fullness of flavours and aromas impossible to achieve with the wines of a single year.

Composed around the harvest of 2015, Krug Grande Cuvée 171ème Édition is a blend of 131 wines from 12 different years. The youngest is from the year 2015 and the oldest dates back to 2000.

In all, reserve wines from the House’s extensive library made up 42% of the final blend, bringing the breadth and roundness so essential to each Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée.

The final composition of this champagne is 45% Pinot Noir, 37% Chardonnay and 18% Meunier.

In all, over 20 years of careful craftsmanship were necessary to enjoy Krug Grande Cuvée 171ème Édition.

A word from

The cellar master

The Chardonnays and Meuniers of 2015 showed a bit of restraint, so we looked to fresher years from our reserve wine library, including the harvests of 2008, 2013 and even 2014 to bring vivacity and tension to the blend. In this Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée, you will also find Chardonnays from warmer and more capricious years such as 2000 and 2006 that add patina and a toasty quality. The exceptional Pinot Noirs of 2015 were complemented by around 30 other expressions to bring generosity, spice and structure. Finally, Meuniers were selected from 4 harvest years to add an assertive quality and diversity to the final blend.

FOOD PAIRING

Krug Grande Cuvée lends itself to a wealth of culinary combinations, from the simplest to the most sophisticated, from an aged parmesan to turbot à la truffe.

It can be enjoyed as an aperitif with Jabugo ham and mature comté or served to accompany oysters, grilled shrimps, Indian or Moroccan food, as well as desserts such as carrot cake, tarte tatin and cheesecake.

TASTING NOTES

A light golden colour and fine, vivacious bubbles, holding a promise of pleasure.

Aromas of flowers in bloom, ripe, dried and citrus fruits, as well as marzipan and gingerbread.

Grilled notes and flavours of almond paste, quince, lemon, limoncello and dried fruit.

Note:

Serving Temperature

The House of Krug recommends that its Champagnes be served between 9°C and 12°C, as colder temperatures limit the expression of their flavours and aromas.
Note:

The Joseph Glass

In 2011, we partnered with renowned crystalware maker, Riedel, to design a glass that would reveal the fullness of flavours and aromas of Krug Grande Cuvée.
Note:

The Influence of Time

All Krug champagnes gain in complexity and patina with the passage of time. We recommend storing them at the same temperature as you intend to serve them, between 9°C and 12°C.
