Krug Rosé

A singular rosé champagne, an astonishing balancing act between finesse and substance.

The story of Krug Rosé dates back to 1976. With Joseph’s non-conformist spirit at heart, the 5th generation of the Krug family crafted a new composition, an unexpected rosé inspired by the Maison’s reputed art of blending.

Thus, the first Édition of Krug Rosé, a singular champagne achieving an astonishing balancing act between finesse and substance, came to be. Each year, Maison Krug presents a new Édition of Krug Rosé.

A masterful blend of white base wines to bestow elegance, fruit notes and great freshness, completed with traditionally macerated Pinot Noir red wines to add structure and spice.

Composed around the harvest of 2012, Krug Rosé 24ème Édition is a blend of 22 wines from 7 different years, the youngest from 2012, and the oldest from 2006.

In all, reserve wines from the Maison’s extensive library made up 71% of the final blend of this Édition of Krug Rosé.

The final composition of this Édition of Krug Rosé is 40% Pinot Noir, which includes the 11% traditionally macerated Pinot Noir wines, 28% Chardonnay and 32% Meunier.

A word from

The cellar master

Julie Cavil, Krug Cellar Master
The wines of 2012 were round and elegant with pastry notes. This was a year Clos d’Ambonnay auditioned for and was selected to play in the year’s composition. We were lucky because it was also a great year for reds. With intense colour, strawberry and pomegranate notes, the traditionally macerated Pinot Noir from our special plot in Aÿ gave the final blend structure and vivacity, while contributing to its elegant aromatic development. To complete the creation, I selected reserve wines from specific plots and years – especially 2006 and 2008 – to bring tension and balance to this Édition of Krug Rosé.

FOOD PAIRINGS

Krug Rosé lends itself to pairing ideas outside the box. For example, when it accompanies very good quality anchovies, a magical encounter occurs. The saltiness of the fish sublimes the fruit aromas and silkiness of the Champagne, turning the anchovies into a velvet sensation.

Krug Rosé can also be enjoyed with foie gras, lamb, game, white meat, venison or even dishes with spices. Krug Rosé is not recommended for desserts, unless they are not sweet at all. Unexpectedly, it best accompanies very savoury dishes.

TASTING NOTES

At first sight, its subtle pale pink colour holds a promise of elegance.

On the nose, aromas of rose hips, cured ham, mulberries, redcurrant, peony, pepper and pink grapefruit.

On the palate, delicate flavours of honey, citrus and dried fruit with a long finish, enhanced by its fine bubbles complete the experience.

Note:

Serving Temperature

The House of Krug recommends that its Champagnes be served between 9°C and 12°C, as colder temperatures limit the expression of their flavours and aromas.
Note:

The Krug Rosé Glass

To design a glass that would allow Krug Rosé’s singularly elegant and nonconformist character to be fully discovered, the House of Krug joined forces, once more, with master glassmaker Riedel.
Note:

The Influence of Time

All Krug champagnes gain in complexity and patina with the passage of time. We recommend storing them at the same temperature as you intend to serve them, between 9°C and 12°C.
