The Krug Way
Our
Emblematic Places

Part 1
Maison Krug is based in Reims, where it was founded in 1843, but its historic sites span the Champagne region. From the Family House and its historic cellars to the Maison’s iconic walled vineyards known as Clos, or the new Joseph winery in Ambonnay, Krug is embedded in the regional landscape and committed to preserving it. Beyond Champagne, Maison Krug has a global presence thanks to its community of Krug Ambassades around the world.

THE KRUG FAMILY HOUSE
The Krug Family House has been located at 5, rue Coquebert in Reims since 1868. Former residence of the Krug family, completely renovated in 2017, it sits above the Maison’s historic cellars and reserve wine library. On the ground floor is the tasting room of The Wall of 400 Wines, in tribute to the number of wines Cellar Master Julie Cavil auditions each year when she crafts a new Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée.
A bustling place of work and hospitality, the Family House is also where Krug Lovers and friends of the Maison can discover food and champagne pairings crafted in our kitchen under the direction of Michelin-star Chef Arnaud Lallement.

THE LODGE
In 2023, Maison Krug inaugurated the Lodge, overlooking one of our vineyards in the village of Trépail. This restoration project was driven by our engagement to preserve the landscape of the Champagne region, including its architectural heritage. These loges de vignerons, modest constructions once used by wine growers as storage for their tools and occasionally for shelter, are a common sight throughout the territory.
Conceived as a hospitality space, the Lodge allows Krug Lovers to discover our craftsmanship in the heart of the vineyards of Champagne.

THE CLOS
Two historic walled vineyards have become emblematic of Maison Krug. The Clos du Mesnil, only 1.84 hectares, situated in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, is renowned for the purity of its Chardonnay. The Clos d’Ambonnay, a mere 0.68 hectares, lies in the heart of the village of Ambonnay, known for the exceptional depth of its Pinot Noir. Treasured terroirs, these tiny vineyards exemplify Krug’s plot-by-plot approach to winemaking.

The
Joseph Winery
Inaugurated in 2024, after seven years in the making, the Joseph winery a state-of-the-art facility located at Krug’s Clos d’Ambonnay. The state-of-the art facility, which has been entirely eco-designed, brings together all Krug’s vinification and creation activities in one space, uniting the best possible conditions for the creation of the most generous expression of Champagne each year.

The Joseph winery has been designed for us, by us with transmission to future generations in mind. Years of planning have enabled us to innovate with technology to improve comfort and working conditions while respecting tradition and providing the very best conditions not only for the creation of our champagnes, but for the environment.
Joseph is HQE certified with a rating of “exceptional,” which relates to reducing the carbon footprint of buildings by minimizing their energy and water consumption, reusing and recycling worksite waste, and limiting impact on the environment. The certification, while not a goal in itself, is testament to Maison Krug’s innate desire to give back to the land and pursue winemaking sustainably.
The two matching wings of the Joseph winery have been designed to minimize their visual impact with a pure, contemporary aesthetic and organic lines echoing the surrounding village and terroir. Transposed harmoniously against the original landscape, the site bridges rich heritage and powerful contemporary energy.

“Taking Joseph Krug’s dream into the future means respecting his fundamental principles with the tools and resources of the present and future."
Julie Cavil
Krug Cellar Master

“It is not about accumulating labels. The HQE approach was a real tool for steering the project, integrated from the outset and used for every decision throughout the process; it is a checklist that allowed us to ask the right questions, to make conscious choices and to take into account.”
Isabelle Bui
Winemaking Development Manager & Member of Krug's Tasting Committee

Krug
Ambassades

Krug Ambassades are where Krug comes to life around the world. More than places, they are the faces of Krug Lover Chefs, sommeliers, restaurateurs, bartenders and fine wine merchants with whom we enjoy a privileged relationship.
A global community sharing our values and commitment to quality, Krug Ambassades are extensions of Maison Krug where Krug Lovers can feel at home.
