Krug Vintage

The story of a year, captured by Krug.

At Maison Krug, every Krug Vintage celebrates the distinct character of a particular year – a blend of its most expressive wines, enhanced by a stay of over ten years in the cellars. Each Krug Vintage is different: it tells the story of the unique circumstances of the year, of what surprised, enchanted or moved our Tasting Committee in the tasting room.

Krug 2008
Krug 2008 is the beautifully contrasted story of one of Champagne’s coolest vintages in 14 years, and least sunny in almost half a century. The absence of extremes in 2008 provided ideal circumstances for the creation of a timeless vintage. Balancing structure and finesse, this champagne is nicknamed “Classic Beauty” by the Tasting Committee.

With elegance and depth, Krug 2008 is a blend of Pinot Noir (53%), Meunier (25%), and Chardonnay (22%).

A word from

The cellar master

Julie Cavil, Krug Cellar Master
Due to the excellent and balanced cool climate of 2008, the grapes could take their time to mature in tranquillity, ultimately exhibiting beautiful freshness upon harvest. Surprisingly, despite these mild and constant conditions, we observed great heterogeneity from plot to plot. The beauty of this contrast was the inspiration to blend complementary flavours and aromas from different plots including Aÿ, Bouzy and Ambonnay. Krug 2008 is a great classic of the House.

FOOD PAIRINGS

Krug 2008 is a beautiful match for oyster tartare with a lobster emulsion, parmesan shortbread, pistachio Chaource in pastry sheets, rabbit terrine with sorrel, tagliatelle with mussels and basil, dishes prepared with aromatic herbs like oregano and thyme or whitefish in a lemon and pepper sauce, as well as desserts that contrast vivacity and roundness such as passionfruit and lemon meringue.

TASTING NOTES

At first sight, an intense and brilliant golden hue.

An expressive nose that is rich and ample with patinated aromas of honey, liquorice, menthol, orange peel and grapefruit.

Vivacious, intense and harmonious with great tension on the palate, expressing notes of quince, candied fruits and citrus, yellow kiwi, star fruit, honey, apple tart, butter cookies, orange peel, peony and fennel, with floral and menthol undertones.

It has a long, balanced and precise finish with astounding structure.

Note:

Serving Temperature

The House of Krug recommends that its Champagnes be served between 9°C and 12°C, as colder temperatures limit the expression of their flavours and aromas.
Note:

The Joseph Glass

In 2011, we partnered with renowned crystalware maker, Riedel, to design a glass that would reveal the fullness of flavours and aromas of Krug champagnes.
Note:

The Influence of Time

All Krug champagnes gain in complexity and patina with the passage of time. We recommend storing them at the same temperature as you intend to serve them, between 9°C and 12°C.

RATINGS

"Exceptional freshness with aromas of flinty white stones, flowers, almonds and lemons. There’s hazelnut and strawberry here, too. Complex. The palate has a long, powerful and smooth-honed feel with very assertive citrus flavors, driven by long acidity. A perfect 2008."

RATINGS

"There’s a supernova of sensation with each sip of this powerful version, This burns bright from start to finish, yet its fine integration and lovely, raw silk–like mousse pull it all together into a seamless, vibrant package."
