The Art of
Blending

During the Summer before the harvest, Julie Cavil, Krug Cellar Master, and the Tasting Committee anticipate the opportunities and challenges that the year's climate might have in store. The impact of the climate on the grapes, and then on the expression of the year's wines, is put into perspective with the reserve wines from previous years in the Tasting Room. Together, through the variety of their contrasts and singularities, they become a source of inspiration for the creation of Krug Grande Cuvée.
Each new Édition is a tribute to the diversity of Champagne's terroirs, thus embodying the most generous expression of champagne.

KRUG'S TASTING COMMITTEE
The individual character and singularity we seek in the expression of each wine is reflected in our Tasting Committee. A diverse and complementary group, comprised of women and men of different generations and sensibilities, each member has an equal share of voice in the final blending decision.

The Ritual of Tasting
Every morning at 11:00 AM sharp, for six months following the harvest, Krug’s Tasting Committee convenes behind closed doors.
During this time, they become acquainted with the wines of the year’s harvest and discover the evolution of the reserve wines from previous years. They “blind” taste no more than 15 wines per day, carefully recording the personality and development of each. In total, they record recording around 5,000 tasting notes every year, before even contemplating the composition of the different cuvées.
