Krug Rosé is everywhere we don’t expect it to be, in terms of texture, colour and taste. It is a remarkable Champagne which encapsulates the same creative spirit of Krug Grande Cuvée, again surpassing the very notion of vintage.
This magnum spent at least 9 years in Krug's cellars developing its particular expression and elegance, receiving its cork in spring 2015.
As it is a magnum, we let it rest for even longer, waiting until the Champagne is ready to be enjoyed.
Inspired by the dream of the fifth generation of the House of Krug to conceive a rosé Champagne that did not yet exist, every year a new Édition of Krug Rosé is created.
The broad palette of elegant notes in Krug Rosé 19ème Édition, is born from a selection of 37 wines , the youngest of which dates back to 2006 and the oldest to 2000. The blend was completed with 10% traditionally macerated Pinot Noir red wine from the year.
Krug Rosé 19ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2006. The year's summer was one of sharp contrasts, with a heat wave punctuated by intermittent storms and even hail. These extremes incited some concern for the health of the grapes but the last days of summer were fine and bright. When harvest time arrived, the grapes expressed a good level of maturity.
To balance the beautiful roundness and aromatic notes of fruit in the selected wines of the year, the majority of Pinot Noirs chosen for the blend came from plots on the northern slopes of the Montagne de Reims, bringing hints of fresh fruit and tension. Among the reserve wines, which make up 22% of the final blend, a 2004 Chardonnay from a plot in Oger was chosen for its vivacious notes of fruit, while a 2005 Meunier from a plot in the Vallée de la Marne lent its generous fruit character. Finally, a red wine from the House's plot in Ay imparted an enchanting colour, delicacy, length and spiciness. This fusion promised to reveal the elegance and verve so characteristic of every Édition of Krug Rosé.
The final composition of this bottle of Krug Rosé is 59% Pinot Noir, 33% Chardonnay and 8% Meunier.
Krug Rosé is the most non-conformist of Krug Champagnes, for bold gastronomic adventures. Combining breadth, depth and grace, it dances a perfect tango with savoury dishes of all kinds, replacing a great red wine at the table with brio.
Krug Rosé is both unexpected and daring. It shows a broad and extensive aromatic palette, unusual for a Rosé Champagne.
As you taste Krug Rosé, you will discover harmonies of puff pastry and red-berry tart, which develop towards honey and citrus fruits.
Its floral accents and notes of dried or stewed fruit will enthral your palate. Its extreme delicacy is enhanced by the subtlety of its fine and elegant bubbles.
Krug Rosé’s broad palette of elegant fruit notes, as well as its pink hue, beautifully complement the flavours and colours of scorpion fish. A rosé which never plays with a flattering and primary character but enhances the depth and the finesse of a Grand Cru, with an infinite persistence.
