Krug Rosé 21ème Édition

Composed around the harvest of 2008

Krug Rosé is inspired by the dream of the fifth generation of the Krug family to conceive a rosé Champagne that did not yet exist, one that could be re-created each year. Every Édition of Krug Rosé perpetuates this legacy.

Krug Rosé is surprising, as it replaces a good red wine at the table with brio. This Champagne is a delicate blend of wines of the year with wines from selected plots of the House’s vast reserve library, completed with traditionally macerated Pinot Noir to add structure and spice. A rest of around seven years in Krug’s cellars gives Krug Rosé its refined elegance and character.

A talk with Julie Cavil

Krug Cellar Master

Inspired by the dream of the fifth generation of the House of Krug to conceive a rosé Champagne that did not yet exist, every year a new Édition of Krug Rosé is created.
Krug Rosé 21ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2008. Following a mild winter, overcast spring and cool summer, there was concern over the maturation of the grapes, further compounded by a severe hailstorm that hit the village of Sainte-Gemme, reputed for its plots of Meunier. But in mid-September, the clouds miraculously parted and favourable conditions lasted throughout the harvest, which gave us grapes in excellent health and with a good level of maturity.
The year's Chardonnay wines revealed an unusual suppleness and expression of fruit, while the Pinot Noirs were characterful and bold, with a lively finish. As feared, the hailstorm did indeed leave its mark on the Meuniers. Fortunately, Krug's extensive library of reserve wines held a number of Meuniers from different years, a selection of which lent their vibrant notes of fruit and tension to the blend. Pinot Noirs from plots in Ambonnay, Mareuil-sur-Ay and Ay enhanced its body and expression with their intense fruit character. Finally, a red wine from the House's plot in Ay imparted an enchanting colour, length and spiciness. This fusion promised to reveal the elegance and verve so characteristic of every Édition of Krug Rosé.
Krug Rosé is the most non-conformist of Krug Champagnes, for bold gastronomic adventures. Combining breadth, depth and grace, it dances a perfect tango with savoury dishes of all kinds, replacing a good red wine at the table with brio.

Ratings

"This 21st Édition of Krug Rosé has a pale colour and a fresh nose of red fruits. It then takes on a much more complex dimension with a very fresh and above all its unmistakably long palate."

La Revue du Vin de France 2020
RATING:  96/100

"Aromatic, with orchard blossom, ginger and kumquat hints, this vibrant rosé shows a beautiful marriage of intense acidity and flavor range, allowing notes of peach skin, blood orange granita, toasted coconut and Marcona almond to play and expand on the palate as they ride the lovely, lacy mousse. Offers a lasting, racy finish."
