Krug Rosé 25ème Édition

Composed around the harvest of 2013

Krug Rosé is inspired by the dream of the fifth generation of the Krug family to conceive a rosé Champagne that did not yet exist, one that could be re-created each year. Every Édition of Krug Rosé perpetuates this legacy.

Krug Rosé is surprising, as it replaces a good red wine at the table with brio. This Champagne is a delicate blend of wines of the year with wines from selected plots of the House’s vast reserve library, completed with traditionally macerated Pinot Noir to add structure and spice. A rest of around seven years in Krug’s cellars gives Krug Rosé its refined elegance and character.

A talk with Julie Cavil

Krug Cellar Master

The harvest of 2013 gave the House’s oldest plots the conditions they needed to shine. The vibrant, chiselled Chardonnays from plots in the Côte des Blancs, the Sézannais and the Montagne de Reims were particularly revelatory of their terroirs. The 2013 Meuniers from plots in Sainte Gemme brought structure to the blend thanks to their later ripening, while wines from the very same plots, but born from the explosive circumstances of 2012, were selected for their aromatic intensity and expression.
Krug Rosé is inspired by the dream of the fifth generation of the Krug family to conceive a rosé Champagne that did not yet exist, one that could be re-created each year. Every Édition of Krug Rosé perpetuates this legacy.
Krug Rosé 25ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2013. The season began with a seemingly endless winter followed by a rainy and cool spring. Luckily, summer was hot and sunny, although also marked by hailstorms, which took their toll in the vineyards. The wines of the year were complete, expressive and full of flavours.
Each year, to re-create the dream of the fifth generation of the Krug family of an unexpected, bold and elegant rosé Champagne, the House starts by identifying plots’ wines from the current and previous years that will together convey all possible types of fruit expression. This composition then embraces a traditionally macerated red Pinot Noir, which adds spiciness, colour and structure.
Krug Rosé 25ème Édition is thus the result of complementing the selected plots’ wines of the year with reserve wines from 4 other years. Reserve wines from the 2008 harvest bring roundness and unctuousness to this Édition of Krug Rosé, while reserve wines from plots in the villages of Ambonnay and Bouzy across different harvest years were chosen for the intensity of their fruit. A red Pinot Noir wine of the year from a very special plot, La Côte Valnon, in Aÿ completed the creation. It is the 25th time this dream has been re-created.
In all, reserve wines from the House’s extensive library made up 50% of the final blend of this Édition of Krug Rosé.
