About the Krug Lover

Arakel Sedef, owner of Arakel in Geneva, works closely with Chef Sommelier and Director Julien Samson. Together, they have conceived the restaurant with a philosophy that blends passion, reliability, and determination. Their deep love for wine – and admiration for Krug Champagne – is at the heart of their vision. Every detail reflects their dedication to sharing the finest gastronomic experiences with their guests, with passion and humility.

Who is the person you admire most and why?

Nelson Mandela, without hesitation – for his fight, his extraordinary journey, his values and his resistance against those who sought to shatter his ideals.
As a tribute to this extraordinary man, I have one of his quotes tattooed on my arm: "The greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time you fall."

What is the greatest lesson you have learnt in or outside the kitchen?

Apart from the birth of my children, it has been my experiences in the world of luxury, whether in palaces or Michelin-starred restaurants across Europe. These moments were enhanced by encounters with exceptional professionals who have had a profound impact on me.

What are your sources of inspiration?

My children, first and foremost, but also 90s hip-hop, the fascinating world of wine and gastronomy, and History – with a capital H.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Respectful, passionate and jovial. 

Where are you when you feel the happiest?

By the Mediterranean, particularly on the Côte d'Azur, or in a football stadium, more specifically in Marseille.

What is your favourite Krug food pairing?

At home, I particularly enjoy pairing Krug Grande Cuvée with scallops just pan-seared in hazelnut butter, accompanied by an espuma of aged Parmesan and a julienne of black truffle.

Why do you love Krug?

Krug marked my start in the restaurant business: it was the first champagne house I had the privilege of tasting. It was a true revelation that sparked my desire to become a sommelier. Even today, Krug remains a faithful companion, present at all my celebrations and every moment of sharing. In other words, almost all the time!

Who is the person you admire most and why?

That's a difficult question... I could mention Bernard Arnault for his remarkable career, or Kery James for his mastery of the French language and his ability to convey strong messages and intense emotions. As you may have gathered, I have a deep admiration for people who rise to challenges, whether personal or professional, and above all for those who leave a lasting imprint on people's minds and memories.

What is the greatest lesson you have learnt in or outside the kitchen?

Life is full of milestones, each in its own time and place. If I had to choose one today, it would undoubtedly be becoming an entrepreneur.

What are your sources of inspiration?

The energy I feel every day and the creativity I see in the people around me.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Passionate, boundless and generous. 

Where are you when you feel the happiest?

If I had to choose one place, it would be the South of France, by the sea or on the water, where many happy childhood memories were made. That said, these days, what really counts for me are not the places, but the emotional moments shared with the people who matter.

What is your favourite Krug food pairing?

Truffled poultry served with mashed Ratte potatoes.

Why do you love Krug?

What makes Krug unique for me is, firstly, its bold history, born of Joseph Krug's uncompromising vision. Secondly, it is the incredible, almost limitless vibrancy it exudes. I cannot help but draw a parallel with my daily life: with conviction and without concessions, we create explosions of flavour and texture. Krug is a source of inspiration and the starting point for rich and memorable exchanges.
