Nelson Müller’s Diepeschrather Mühle, a Relais & Châteaux property just outside Cologne, offers a serene escape in the rolling landscape of the Bergisches Land. About the Krug Lover

Nelson Müller is a German chef whose cuisine reflects both his Ghanaian heritage and upbringing in Stuttgart. After training in Germany and Italy, he opened his Michelin-starred restaurant Schote in Essen in 2009, relocating it in 2023 to the tranquil Diepeschrather Mühle near Bergisch Gladbach. Known to many through his appearances on German television, Müller combines his passion for seasonal, regional ingredients with a belief in honest, expressive cooking. His work is shaped by a deep sense of place, a respect for craft, and a personal journey that continues to inform his thoughtful approach to cuisine. 

Can you describe any parallels you see between cooking and Music? 

A dish, like a good song, can be very emotional, an experience. The preparation of both is highly artisanal. Dishes, like songs, can be quiet or loud, classical or playful. 

What is the greatest lesson you have learnt in or outside the kitchen? 

In the war of egos, the loser is always the winner. 

What qualities do you value most in another person? 

Honesty .

How would you describe your culinary philosophy? 

Classical French, Mediterranean, German kitchen.  

Where are you when you feel the happiest? 

In my Diepeschrather Mühle. 

What is your favourite Krug food pairing?

Krug Grande Cuvée and wild strawberries.
