About the Krug Lover

Born in H.Dh. Kulhudhuffushi, Maldives, Ahmed Ali brings a strong sense of place to luxury hospitality. Now Food & Beverage Manager at Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, following more than six years as Chief Sommelier, he is driven by a passion for creating meaningful guest experiences. Ahmed Ali has been a Krug Lover since 2014, when he discovered Krug through a memorable tasting. His approach unites cuisine, setting, and champagne with balance, emotion, and care.

What is your ultimate dream meal?

My ultimate dream meal would be something simple, fresh seafood by the ocean, loved ones, and a bottle of Krug. Nothing complicated, just great flavours and a moment to enjoy.

What is your greatest achievement?

My greatest achievement is building a career doing what I truly love, creating memorable experiences for guests, while growing and leading a strong team along the way.

What three things would you take with you on a desert island?

My fishing rod, good company, and a bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée. Simple, but everything I’d need to enjoy the moment.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Driven. Guest-focused. Passionate.

What qualities do you value most in another person?

I value honesty, respect, and a genuine attitude – someone who is real, dependable and treats others well.

Can you describe your first sip of Krug?

My first sip of Krug was something I will never forget. Rich, smooth and beautifully balanced. It just felt special from the first taste, with layers opening up as I enjoyed it.

Why do you love Krug?

I love Krug because of the philosophy behind it. Krug is an experience in itself and every bottle tells a story. The fact that Krug Grande Cuvée brings together over 120 wines from more than 10 different years to offer the most generous expression of Champagne year after year is just incredible. For me, Krug is about creating and sharing unforgettable moments together.
