The House of Krug invites you to discover the intensity, individuality and purity of Krug Clos d’Ambonnay 1995: from a single plot, a single grape variety – Pinot Noir – and the harvest of the year 1995.

Clos d’Ambonnay is a tiny walled plot of 0.68 hectares located in the heart of Ambonnay, one of the most distinguished villages for Pinot Noir grapes in Champagne and the main source of Pinot Noir for the House since its earliest years.

Krug Clos d’Ambonnay 1995 is the first Champagne of this exceptional terroir ever created.

A talk with Julie Cavil

Krug Cellar Master

The year 1995 in the village of Ambonnay had a mild, slightly rainy winter with two short periods of frost in January and March that had minimal impact on the vines. The spring was sunny and warm with a long period of heat from late June until the end of harvest. The wines of the year exhibited great fruit expression and freshness. A promise of generosity, elegance and length.
The House chose to reveal Krug Clos d’Ambonnay 1995 because the circumstances of the year gave a Champagne that fully expressed the potential of this walled plot.

Ratings

"The 1995 Brut Blanc de Noirs Clos d’Ambonnay is simply profound from the very first sip. Totally rich and seductive, the 1995 Clos d’Ambonnay is a wine that will stimulate the intellectual and hedonistic senses to the maximum. In a word, it is divine. The 1995 Clos d’Ambonnay is hard to resist today, but it should continue to develop positively in bottle for a number of years."

Robert Parker 2020
RATING:  98/100

"Thrown in as a ringer, the 1995 Clos d’Ambonnay is a real treat to taste next to the 1996. In particular, tasting both vintages together shows that that 1995 is the more complete of these two first releases of Krug’s single-vineyard Champagne from Ambonnay. Finely-cut fruit, expressive aromatics and exceptional textural finesse are the signatures. This is another fabulous showing from the 1995 Clos d’Ambonnay."

I still remember my first glass of Krug, being overwhelmed by a complexity I did not expect from a Champagne. It was one big crescendo, a feast of highlights, the big finale of a huge fireworks display.
