In the centre of Limburg, Belgium, in the middle of a green oasis, you will find Restaurant Slagmolen. As its name suggests, the restaurant is located in a watermill situated in the Bosbeek Valley in Opglabbeek. Not only does the interior provide unique surroundings with visible old machinery, the beautiful garden is also the ideal spot to enjoy the culinary art of Chef Bert Meewis and the hospitality of his wife, Karlijn Libbrecht.

I identify so much with Krug’s philosophy – simplicity, and quality without compromise.
How would you describe your culinary philosophy?
Extracting as much taste and depth as possible from the finest ingredients available.
Who, from history, would you like to share a glass of Krug with?
Without hesitation, Monsieur Auguste Escoffier, the Chef of Kings and The King of Chefs. He modernized traditional French cuisine like no other before him and lay the foundations for contemporary French cooking.
What is your greatest extravagance in life?
I am someone who is modest by nature. You will not see me driving extravagant cars or living a glamorous life. That is why I identify so much with Krug’s philosophy – simplicity, and quality without compromise.
Tell us about your first unforgettable journey with Krug?
No one forgets their first glass of Krug right? I was 35 and temporarily in a wheelchair due to hip surgery when my wife gave me a glass of Krug for me to cheer me up. I was immediately smitten and became a true Krug Lover.
