A Krug Vintage is a blend of the most expressive wines from a single year enhanced by a stay of over ten years in the cellars. Every Krug Vintage is different: it is the Music of the year, captured by Krug.

Krug 1995 is the harmonious expression of a gentle year and the second vintage of the nineties after Krug 1990. Classic, charismatic and utterly charming, Krug 1995 brings its own vivacious personality to the legendary Krug style. At the time, Rémi Krug said it reminded him of classic beauties of 1969 and 1979, although he stressed, “this vintage is first and foremost an individual, which is exactly what people treasure about Krug”. Every Krug Vintage is a different story.

Krug Cellar Master

1995 was a year of expressive and generous grapes for Krug. It began with a mild winter that was rainy with two short periods of frost in January and March followed by a warm and sunny spring with some April frosts. Nature gifted the ripening season with a long period of heat from the end of June to the harvest, giving expressive fruit with great levels of freshness and character.
Krug 1995 is the serene and harmonious reflection of warm summer sunshine tempered by crisp autumn nights. For Krug, the year 1995 gave birth to wines exhibiting great character, elegance and length. Its final composition is Pinot Noir (48%), Chardonnay (35%) and Meunier (17%).
While a Krug Vintage normally leaves the cellars after 10 years, the House keeps a limited number of these bottles, which were disgorged at the same time, under optimal conditions to present again at a later date. These bottles of Krug Vintage are known as Back Vintages. After over 20 years in the cellars, these bottles have gained in finesse and elegance with a unique harmony of aromas.

Tasting notes

Krug 1995 is characterized by a lustrous pale gold colour and playful streams of bubbles.

On the nose, the Champagne delights by its rare combination of ripeness and delicacy, its fragrant hints of white flowers, freshly baked gingerbread and candied fruits alongside ripe melon.

On the palate, Krug 1995 is generous and full, velvety with a hint of almonds and honey, perfectly balanced with fresh citrus fruits, even pink grapefruit enhanced by a remarkable finish.

Krug 1995 pairs elegantly with spicy or exotic recipes including Japanese, Chinese, Indian or Thai dishes seasoned with crystallized ginger and other spices. This Champagne is also a beautiful match for scallops, shrimp or lobster with paprika and sauterne sauce or even veal with black pepper or light mustard sauce. Desserts with roasted fruits such as apples or peaches further enhance the experience.
