MUSIC: AT THE HEART OF KRUG’S HERITAGE
Music has been central within the universe of Krug, since the earliest days of the House. The family residence built by Joseph Krug’s son, Paul I, was the first private home in Reims to feature a Music room.
Joseph II, Paul’s son, clearly inherited his father’s passion for Music and was known within his inner circle for his perfect pitch. In the late 19th century, he wrote of his travels to Asia and Australia, and recorded his impressions of the sounds and music he encountered in vivid detail.
The House of Krug has long sensed a link between sound and taste perception. Many an appreciator of fine wine and Music, or anyone who has used the Krug App, understands the joy of savouring this extraordinary Champagne while listening to a unique melody and how such an experience allows one to travel down direct pathways to the sensations.
CREATING LIKE A MUSIC CONDUCTOR
Creating a new Édition each year takes a very musical approach at the House of Krug, with Cellar Master Éric Lebel likened to a great Music composer.
Every year, one creation, one blend, one bottling and thus one new Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the fullest expression of Champagne, comes to life. Krug Grande Cuvée 167ème Édition is a blend of 191 wines from 13 different years. The youngest is from 2011, while the oldest dates back to 1995.
It is a living embodiment of the dream of the founder, Joseph Krug, and incarnates the House’s raison d’être.
TELLING A STORY WITH SOUND
Together with Belgian artist and 3D Music pioneer, Ozark Henry, the House is breaking new ground in 2019 with Krug Music Pairings.
Experimenting with 3D Music, Krug Encounters will reveal gateways to the sensations and – in an unexpected way – present the most recent Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée.
This 3D Music will create an audio space that envelops guests in an enhanced sensorial experience that acoustically mirrors the story of Krug Grande Cuvée 167ème Édition.
