A word from

The cellar master

Julie Cavil, Krug Cellar Master
Krug Rosé 23ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2011, an atypical year with high temperatures followed by cold, wet weather and low sun. The year’s unusual climate made it the second earliest harvest since 1822. In the end, grapes were healthy and of surprising structure, with wonderfully balanced Pinot Noirs and particularly expressive wines from plots in Mareuil sur Ay.

Julie Cavil, Krug cellar master

To create this Champagne, carefully selected plots’ wines of the year were blended with reserve wines from 9 other years, including the 2007 Meuniers of some plots from Sainte-Gemme chosen for their fruit character, as well as the 2009 Chardonnays of some plots from Trépail to add vivacity and tension.

Time in cellar:

This half-bottle spent 6 in Krug's cellars developing its particular expression and finesse, receiving its cork in Autumn 2015.

FOOD PAIRINGS

Krug Rosé lends itself to pairing ideas outside the box. For example, when it accompanies very good quality anchovies, a magical encounter occurs. The saltiness of the fish sublimes the fruit aromas and silkiness of the Champagne, turning the anchovies into a velvet sensation.

Krug Rosé can also be enjoyed with foie gras, lamb, game, white meat, venison or even dishes with spices. Krug Rosé is not recommended for desserts, unless they are not sweet at all. Unexpectedly, it best accompanies very savoury dishes.

TASTING NOTES

At first sight, its subtle pale pink colour holds a promise of elegance.

On the nose, aromas of rose hips, cured ham, mulberries, redcurrant, peony, pepper and pink grapefruit.

On the palate, delicate flavours of honey, citrus and dried fruit with a long finish, enhanced by its fine bubbles complete the experience.

Note:

Serving Temperature

The House of Krug recommends that its Champagnes be served between 9°C and 12°C, as colder temperatures limit the expression of their flavours and aromas.
Note:

The Krug Rosé Glass

To design a glass that would allow Krug Rosé’s singularly elegant and nonconformist character to be fully discovered, the House of Krug joined forces, once more, with master glassmaker Riedel.
Note:

The Influence of Time

All Krug champagnes gain in complexity and patina with the passage of time. We recommend storing them at the same temperature as you intend to serve them, between 9°C and 12°C.
Krug Rosé tasting notes

Ratings

"With a finely orange color, this 23rd Édition presents a nose of cherry and raspberry that gives way to aromas of blood orange and lemon freshness. On the palate, the wine is very generous with a decisive fruit character and complexity evoking flavours of rose. This very beautiful rosé, a blend which contains around 10% red wine, offers a long and delightful finish. We would open it to accompany a pigeon recipe or a lamb tagine."

Krug Rosé

ratings

"A creamy plushness accents this tightly meshed rosé Champagne, with rich hints of toasted nut and caffè crema underscoring the baked currant and apricot fruit flavors. Well-honed acidity focuses this through to the mouthwatering, chalk- and spice-laced finish."
