Krug Collection 1996
To the delight of Krug Lovers around the world, a very limited number of bottles of Krug Vintage are kept in ideal conditions in the House’s cellars. Over time, they continue to develop in maturity, revealing flavours and aromas of astonishing freshness, elegance and finesse.
The Cellar Master and the Tasting Committee take note of these additional facets and depth that have emerged. New flavours surprise whilst old ones have evolved in structure. At that moment, they decide these bottles are ready to receive their cork, to be presented to the world as Krug Collection: the deeper story of a Krug Vintage.
Krug Collection 1996 translates beautifully the serenity and complexity of the year 1996 now with intensity and depth. To express the character of this year, the composition includes plot's wines of Pinot Noir (48%), Chardonnay (31%) and Meunier (21%).
FOOD PAIRING
Krug Collection 1996 reveals outstanding grace and elegance, enhanced by decades on the lees that have developed rich flavours and an unctuous texture. This Champagne is an ideal match for a broad palette of gastronomic dishes such as a white or black truffle soufflé and delicate fish in a lemon cream sauce.
It also pairs beautifully with simple pleasures like crustaceans with mango salsa and lemongrass, as well as a classic crêpe Suzette.
TASTING NOTES
Krug Collection 1996 reveals a deep golden yellow colour.
On the nose, toasted notes intertwine with aromas of coffee and chicory, lifted by nuances of candied fruits, quince paste, and a delicate touch of smoke.
On the palate, the wine is balanced and complex, expressing lemon in all its forms—fresh, candied, in meringue pie, and as limoncello—creating a layered and harmonious tasting experience.
