The cellar master
To complement the wines of 2004 – vivacious Meuniers, vibrant Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs with beautiful structure – we looked for reserves wines from different plots and years that would bring breadth and generosity. Notably among them are older Chardonnays, such as 1990 wines from plots in Avize and Oger, which conferred freshness, while 1995 wines
from plots in Avize brought bountiful roundness to the final blend.
Julie Cavil, Krug cellar master
Krug Grande Cuvée 160ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2004. With beautiful weather in harvest time from mid-September to early October, 2004 was a generous year after the challenging extremes of 2003. Nature's elation afforded a breadth of choice and when harvest time arrived the grapes were in very good condition.
Upon tasting the wines of the year, the Meuniers revealed vivacity, tension and citrus notes, the Chardonnays showed vibrancy and the Pinot Noirs a beautiful structure.
Time in cellar:
This bottle spent around 8 years in Krug's cellars developing its generosity and elegance, receiving its cork in Spring 2012.
