The Year 2009 :

The year 2009 began with a harsh winter followed by mild spring and bud break mid-April. Storms from May to July gave way to ideal dry sunny weather with cool nights upon harvest. The wines of the year were fruity, delicate, intense and full-bodied with a touch of spice.

The harvest of the Clos du Mesnil took place on 10 & 11 September 2009 and afforded grapes with exceptional freshness and elegant expression that made for beautifully structured wines, affording 9 900 bottles.

Time in cellar:

This individually numbered bottle spent at least 15 in Krug’s cellars further developing its precision and purity. After regular tasting and appraisal, it received its cork as Krug Clos du Mesnil 2009 in Winter 2023-2024.

Tasting Notes

At first sight, a luminous, radiant, pale gold.

On the nose, discrete nuances give way to honeysuckle, vegetal and floral notes along with gingerbread, brioche, orange blossom madeleine, and citrus fruit.

On the palate, flavours of ripe, freshly squeezed lemon, round citrus fruit and pear in syrup. It expresses beautiful bitters with a taut, slightly spicy finish. A touch of restraint gives this champagne its beauty.

FOOD PAIRINGS

The Chardonnay from Krug’s Clos du Mesnil exhibits remarkable purity and chiselled citrus that will enhance shellfish.

Krug Clos du Mesnil 2009 may be enjoyed with gastronomic recipes such as cod in beurre blanc sauce with chives, or ricotta-stuffed pasta with zucchini flowers. Simple pleasures such as roasted eggplant with tahini, or freshly shucked rock oysters will also elevate the tasting experience.

Note:

Serving Temperature

The House of Krug recommends that its Champagnes be served between 9°C and 12°C, as colder temperatures limit the expression of their flavours and aromas.
Note:

The Joseph Glass

In 2011, we partnered with renowned crystalware maker, Riedel, to design a glass that would reveal the fullness of flavours and aromas of Krug champagnes.
Note:

The Influence of Time

All Krug champagnes gain in complexity and patina with the passage of time. We recommend storing them at the same temperature as you intend to serve them, between 9°C and 12°C.
