A word from

The cellar master

Julie Cavil, Krug Cellar Master
Krug Rosé 22ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2010. A year defined by its tumultuous climate, the grapes nonetheless showed great promise until the cool end to the growing season brought cause for concern. The careful attention given to the vines during this challenging period and Krug’s unique respect for the individual character of each plot proved crucial to ensuring a yield in good health and of ideal maturity.

Julie Cavil, Krug cellar master

The year’s Meuniers expressed a beautiful freshness while the Chardonnays were more unctuous. The Pinot Noirs revealed fruit, citrus and finesse. This was the starting point for a flavourful, soft and generous composition, marked by berries but also balance. In order to add the right touch of freshness and a light, youthful tension that would mellow with time, a number of relatively young reserve wines were chosen from the House’s extensive library, making up 46% of the blend. Finally, a red wine from a special plot in Ay imparted an enchanting colour, length and spiciness. This fusion promised to reveal the elegance and verve so characteristic of every Édition of Krug Rosé.

Time in cellar:

This magnum spent 14 in Krug's cellars developing its particular expression and finesse, receiving its cork in Winter 2022-2023.

FOOD PAIRINGS

Krug Rosé lends itself to pairing ideas outside the box. For example, when it accompanies very good quality anchovies, a magical encounter occurs. The saltiness of the fish sublimes the fruit aromas and silkiness of the Champagne, turning the anchovies into a velvet sensation.

Krug Rosé can also be enjoyed with foie gras, lamb, game, white meat, venison or even dishes with spices. Krug Rosé is not recommended for desserts, unless they are not sweet at all. Unexpectedly, it best accompanies very savoury dishes.

TASTING NOTES

At first sight, its subtle pale pink colour holds a promise of elegance.

On the nose, aromas of rose hips, cured ham, mulberries, redcurrant, peony, pepper and pink grapefruit.

On the palate, delicate flavours of honey, citrus and dried fruit with a long finish, enhanced by its fine bubbles complete the experience.

Note:

Serving Temperature

The House of Krug recommends that its Champagnes be served between 9°C and 12°C, as colder temperatures limit the expression of their flavours and aromas.
Note:

The Krug Rosé Glass

To design a glass that would allow Krug Rosé’s singularly elegant and nonconformist character to be fully discovered, the House of Krug joined forces, once more, with master glassmaker Riedel.
Note:

The Influence of Time

All Krug champagnes gain in complexity and patina with the passage of time. We recommend storing them at the same temperature as you intend to serve them, between 9°C and 12°C.

Ratings

"Its modest colour flatters to deceive, yet its power is built on restraint and length above all. A wonderful enigma, red currants, patisserie and a steely grip all defer to gastronomic potential. Olivier feels that this would work well with game dishes such as grouse or even venison."

Krug Rosé tasting notes

ratings

"A vibrant, enticing rosé, with rich aromas and flavors of poached apricot, grilled nut, white cherry, saffron and anise, all set in a seamless frame. This is racy and intense, yet rides the palate, showing a plush and creamy elegance. Hints of coffee liqueur, candied orange and clover honey accent the lingering finish."
