Composed around the harvest of 2007, Krug Grande Cuvée 163ème Édition is a blend of 145 wines from 12 different years. The youngest is from the year 2007 and the oldest dates back to 1990.

In all, reserve wines from the House’s extensive library made up 27% of the final blend, bringing the breadth and roundness so essential to each Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée.

The final composition of this champagne is 37% Pinot Noir, 32% Chardonnay and 31% Meunier.

In all, over 20 years of careful craftsmanship were necessary to enjoy Krug Grande Cuvée 163ème Édition.

The cellar master

Our unique respect for the individual character of each plot enabled the House to discern the strong potential of a number of lesser-known plots to enhance the blend while wines from plots in Villers-Marmery, Trépail, Mareuil and Ambonnay proved to be the foremost contributors to this singular creation.

Krug Grande Cuvée 163ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2007. A year that defied all possible predictions, the extremes of 2007 pushed us to rethink everything we thought we knew. We had to challenge ourselves, to look with fresh eyes at what each individual plot of vines could give us. The early harvest revealed grapes with powerful aromas and discreet flavours.

This bottle spent around 8 years years in Krug's cellars developing its generosity and elegance, receiving its cork in Summer 2015.

FOOD PAIRING

Krug Grande Cuvée lends itself to a wealth of culinary combinations, from the simplest to the most sophisticated, from an aged parmesan to turbot à la truffe.

This Champagne can be enjoyed as an aperitif with Jabugo ham and mature comté or served to accompany oysters, grilled shrimps, Indian or Moroccan food, as well as desserts such as carrot cake, tarte tatin and cheesecake.

TASTING NOTES

A light golden colour and fine, vivacious bubbles, holding a promise of pleasure.

Aromas of flowers in bloom, ripe, dried and citrus fruits, as well as marzipan and gingerbread.

Flavours of hazelnut, nougat, barley sugar, jellied and citrus fruits, almonds, brioche and honey.

Serving Temperature

The House of Krug recommends that its Champagnes be served between 9°C and 12°C, as colder temperatures limit the expression of their flavours and aromas.

The Influence of Time

All Krug champagnes gain in complexity and patina with the passage of time. We recommend storing them at the same temperature as you intend to serve them, between 9°C and 12°C.

"This Champagne, crafted around the harvest of 2007, is a superb Édition at full maturity today. On the nose, particularly aromatic with notes of candied lemon, beeswax, menthol and smoky notes that give way to salty and iodised aromas, followed by a fresh, almost sharp and generous palate, particularly complex. The long finish is salty with a beautiful bitterness. An absolutely sublime Édition."
