A pioneer of the genre crossover, born in Milan in a musical family, Cecilia has followed a very personal path with harp and voice, which has led her, after an important classical career, to write, play and sing her own music. Studying harp at the Milan Conservatory of Music, at sixteen she start studying music composition with Azio Corghi, become a soloist of contemporary music, working among others with John Cage, at nineteen plays as first harp at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

Your relationship with Champagne ?

For me, champagne is a pleasure to be shared. So being able to share Krug is a pleasure greatly multiplied.

Your ideal moment to enjoy Krug Champagne ?

A toast with Krug Champagne is always a very special moment. But enjoying it with food is equally a treat. I find it pairs beautifully with salty flavours but also with good cakes.

Your first sip of Krug Champagne ?

I remember my first sip of Krug seemed so new and different.

Your favorite Krug Champagne ?

It’s hard to say, perhaps Krug Clos du Mesnil 2003.

What connections do you sense between Champagne and music ?

Both have the ability to produce strong feelings and influence people’s moods. The creative inspiration behind both Champagne and music, the search, the passion that lead to creation are most certainly identical. Beyond any similarity in technical vocabulary, they are bonded by a vocabulary of emotions.

Can you explain the music pairing you have chosen for each Krug Champagne ?

“For Krug Grande Cuvée, which is the most generous expression of Champagne, I chose Turandot; Puccini’s masterpiece represents the orchestral fullness and drama that I love the most, especially as we experience it in ‘Nessun Dorma’.

For Krug Rosé, a differently daring approach. Expressive and mysterious as Woman, I was delighted by its subtle and elusive bubbles. They remind me of the same timbres and instrumental colours belonging to Debussy’s ‘Danse Profane’, a masterpiece among the harp repertoire and a model of impressionism in music.   

I felt that the uncertain and dramatic mood of the year that produced vintage Krug 2000 was very similar to the one characterizing my piece “Moto perpetuo”. This piece was composed to describe a state of existential frustration that finds a positive resolution (the high pitched theme) that allows us to see a way out. In the same way, during the historical moment of transition to a new millennium many fears and tensions arose, but then seemingly vanished with a happy new year’s eve.

Krug 2003 vintage conjured up something lively and radiant, like the feelings that inspire me when I perform my piece “Rapide Stelle”, and my fingers rapidly move playing a cascade of notes that could be repeated endlessly. 

Then for Krug Clos d’Ambonnay 2000, I chose another The refinement and sublime elegance of the Nocturne No.3 by Liszt, “Lieberstraum” for piano perfectly match the rare and precious personality of this Champagne.

For Krug Clos du Mesnil 2003, I had to find something truly one-off. The uniqueness and precision in the taste of this particular Champagne remind me of the fullness of the organ in Ligeti’s piece “Hungarian Rock”: an original and overwhelming sound.
