About the Krug Lover

Mark Bright, co-founder and Beverage Director of Angler, is a seasoned sommelier originally from Chicago. His palate was shaped by early experiences in Burgundy and the Santa Cruz Mountains, and his beverage leadership helped shape Saison’s acclaim. Bright’s philosophy champions terroir-driven wines and thoughtful pairings. A Krug Lover since 2023, he celebrates Krug’s elegance through Angler’s beverage experience.

How would you define your cooking style?

I get really hands on. I always want to understand the wine.

What are your sources of inspiration?

My first travels as a sommelier took me to Burgundy and the Rhône Valley, where I found my life-long inspiration in the wine world.

How does the location of your restaurant inspire your cooking?

I took the winemaking techniques that I learned throughout my world travels and brought them to Santa Cruz. This area has some of the best soil types and climates for winemaking.

What is your idea of pleasure?

There’s nothing better than discovering amazing new wines, sharing them with our guests, and creating memorable experiences that stay with them long after they leave.

What three things would you take with you on a desert island?

I only need two--my wife, Ting Ting, and my son, Ethan.

When was your most recent sip of Krug?

I enjoyed Krug at a dinner party last month. The host paired it with a seafood dish, and the combination was absolutely divine.

Why do you love Krug?

The craftsmanship behind Krug is incredible. Knowing the care and expertise that goes into each bottle makes me appreciate it even more.
