Krug Clos du Mesnil
2003

Krug Clos du Mesnil 2003 exalts the extreme purity of one of the finest terroirs in Champagne – a single walled plot of vines, the Clos du Mesnil – and of a single grape variety, Chardonnay - from a single year, 2003.

A chiselled and elegant expression of its terroir, Krug Clos du Mesnil 2003 is the 17th champagne from this unique plot, the first was created from the 1979 harvest.

A word from

The cellar master

Julie Cavil, Krug Cellar Master
It was a memorable year with intriguing contrast between the extreme weather and the Clos du Mesnil’s balanced, expressive Chardonnay.

Julie Cavil, Krug cellar master

The year 2003 at Clos du Mesnil stands out for its dramatic climate of extremes: a very dry winter and spring with an early blossoming period followed by a warm summer. The Chardonnay grapes of the 2003 harvest from this enclosed plot revealed a delightful, expressive and balanced character without excess. The rare beauty and singularity of the year’s grapes make this an exceptional one.

Time in cellar:

This individually numbered bottle spent at least 10 years in Krug’s cellars further developing its precise signature and striking grace. After regular tasting and appraisal, it received its cork as Krug Clos du Mesnil 2003 in Autumn 2013.

TASTING NOTES

Krug Clos du Mesnil 2003 has tones of luminous yellow gold colour which shimmer with brightness.

On the nose, seductive aromas of praline, hazelnuts, ginger and spices.

On the palate, strong flavours of honey, quince and candied citrus fruit, with a long and slightly lemony finish.

Note:

Serving Temperature

The House of Krug recommends that its Champagnes be served between 9°C and 12°C, as colder temperatures limit the expression of their flavours and aromas.
Note:

The Joseph Glass

In 2011, we partnered with renowned crystalware maker, Riedel, to design a glass that would reveal the fullness of flavours and aromas of Krug champagnes.
Note:

The Influence of Time

All Krug champagnes gain in complexity and patina with the passage of time. We recommend storing them at the same temperature as you intend to serve them, between 9°C and 12°C.

RATINGS

"Incredible precision, typicity and citrussy elegance from this ripe and powerful year. Salty minerality and lime notes converge nicely with the Krug-perfume, underlying nuttiness and honey."

RATINGS

"Incredibly fresh and vibrant, this stunning Champagne weaves a tightly knit skein of ripe pear and tangy yellow plum fruit flavors together, with accents of rich pastry cream, toasted brioche, elderflower, ground cardamom and coffee liqueur. Shows a beautiful texture. A thread of salinity winds through to the lasting finish."

Rating: 97/100
